The Heineken Experience in Amsterdam
The Heineken Experience is one of the most popular attractions in Amsterdam and is located in the former Heineken brewery, a historic building more than 100 years old in the vibrant De Pijp district. Until 1988, beer was actually brewed here, after which production stopped and the iconic brewery was transformed into an interactive visitor attraction. Today, the Heineken Experience welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world every year.
Visit the Heineken Museum in Amsterdam
The experience starts with an introduction to the history of the famous beer brand, which was founded in 1864 by Gerard Adriaan Heineken. Visitors discover how a small local brewery in Amsterdam grew into a global beer brand. Historical photos, original brewing kettles, and authentic objects illustrate the evolution of Heineken through the years. You then explore the Heineken brewing process step by step. Through interactive presentations inside the former Heineken brewery, you learn more about the four natural ingredients: water, barley, hops, and the unique A-Yeast.
One of the highlights of the Heineken Experience is the interactive “brew ride,” where you experience in a fun and engaging way what it is like to become a Heineken beer yourself—from raw ingredients to bottled product. In addition to brewing, the Heineken Experience focuses strongly on marketing and sponsorship. Heineken is known worldwide for its iconic advertising campaigns and major partnerships with international sporting events such as Formula 1 and the UEFA Champions League. Special exhibition rooms of the Heineken Museum Amsterdam show how the brand positions itself globally and how marketing has played a key role in Heineken’s success.
Guided tour of the former Heineken brewery
The tour of the Heineken Experience lasts around 90 minutes and includes an English-speaking guide, with audio guides available in six languages. During the tour, you explore the original brewery building and its interactive exhibitions. At the end of the Heineken Experience, you visit the modern tasting room, where you are treated to two cold Heineken beers. Alcohol-free alternatives are available for non-drinkers. It is highly recommended to buy your tickets online in advance, as time slots often sell out quickly, especially during peak season.
